So as some of you may know I have been working on the Melbourne International Arts Festival this year as a secondment student. It is a requirement of my 3rd year studies at the VCA. I have been periodically posting updates of my work on Brightkite and Facebook, but thought it would be appropriate to give a little wrap up of my time, here on my blog. (this is kind of a prologue to the 1000 word report I have to write for uni anyway, but more interesting!)
My work started about a month out from the festival, at the festival office on Flinders Street in the city. I was inducted into the office by Russ Snelling, the production coordinator for » Read the rest of the entry..
So it has finally come to the end of my days at the Victorian College of the Arts, and as such, my final show has rolled around… Very quickly actually.
So…

Stumbled across a Lifehacker post, with info on how to search google’s index from 2001, its pretty fun, give it a try at http://www.google.com/search2001.html
I don’t know that its all that comprehensive, I don’t show up anywhere… Maybe I’m too self centered? I did a few searches and did find one interesting result, and courtesy of the web archive was able to have a giggle…

Now as some of you may know, i have purchased a Mac Mini to act as a Home Theatre PC in my loungeroom, it handles my TV viewing, recording as well as my music playback, photo playback and movie playback! Beats the crap out of Tivo or Foxtel IQ. Now i plan to do a nice in depth review of this system and let you all know some awesome tips and such, but for the more experienced out there, i finally found REAL FRONT ROW INTEGRATION!!!!!
SeeĀ http://forums.elgato.com/viewtopic.php?f=96&t=1360
Go to terminal and copy “defaults write com.elgato.eyetv “apple remote menu button behavior” -int 1″ into it (without the quotations of course! It essentially makes the quick click of the menu button on the apple remote the menu for the TV, and the long click front row. It also adds front row as a link in the more part of the menu! GENIUS!!!!!!!!!!!!! I have been searching for this for a while!
Thank you elgato forums and user MacPlus! I am a happy chappy!
From The Age… dated June 26 2007…
“Smorgon heir puts money into green service stations” “At a tiny service station in High Street, Prahran, under the brand name Conservo, Mr Edwards and his business partners will start selling E10 (unleaded petrol blended with 10 per cent ethanol), B20 (diesel blended with 20 per cent biodiesel) and B100 (100 per cent biodiesel) to the public. E10 is suitable for use in all petrol vehicles and both the B20 and the B100 can be used in standard diesel engines. The fuels all have claimed lower carbon emissions than standard petrol and diesel.”
I drove across to Prahran today to get a haircut. For me, a normal trip to Prahran would be via public transport, as that side of town is congested, busy and has little parking. But i remembered this morning that my car, a 1994 Toyota 4Runner (3.2lt 4 cylinder diesel) was low on petrol, so i made the decision to drive and select one of the two diesel fuels on offer at Conservo. The two fuels on offer were » Read the rest of the entry..
I paid $1.75 per litre at the petrol pump earlier last week, for diesel, including the 4cents a litre discount. I was a little outraged at this, for two reasons. One, we are being told that diesel is better for the environment than unleaded because it goes further per litre and takes less process to manufacture. Now my car, Jack, sits on a nice average of 7.5-8 litres per 100kms, due to its 4 cylinder diesel engine. This means there is no dragging anyone off at the lights and he (Jack, the car) does have a hard time up hills, but hey, its gets from A to B efficiently.
Now after paying this price for petrol i started looking at » Read the rest of the entry..
Spotted on Brunswick Road in Moonee Ponds, a Toyota Prius Hybrid Electric Taxi. A good step towards tackling climate change i think!
I then did some research and found an article in the New South Wales Taxi Driver’s Magazine ‘Meter’ from September of 2007, see www.nswtaxi.org.au/public/meter/Meter%20editions/Meter_August07.pdf It explained that in NSW they have been trialing Hybrid vechiles as taxis since January 2006 and that the results show that drivers could save up to 30% on their fuel bill.
I was unable to find any direct information about the Hybrid Taxis in use in Melbourne, but I did find information from Toyota www.toyota.com.au/hybrid and also information relating to Toyota’s plans to build a new Camry in Melbourne.
I would love a Hybrid, but at the moment they are too expensive!

VCA Production - Puppetry Solos 2008 - “Raw Material” - June 2008
Just over two years ago, The Victorian College of the Arts School of Production established a Post Graduate Degree in Puppetry. Since then the degree has grown and gathered strong support from the Arts Industry, in fostering the development of Puppetry as a performance art.
The course this year is home to 5 puppeteers, Sabrina D’Angelo, Gai Anderson, Rachel Guy, Lisa Foote and Iris Radovic. The 5 puppeteers are an extremely diverse group of people with a wide range of backgrounds, a very large age range and varying interests. My work on the project was as Sound Designer for Sabrina D’Angelo’s and Gai Anderson’s pieces. » Read the rest of the entry..
